Brett Carr - ImageBrett grew up in New Lenox, Illinois and has been working in the advertising field since college. He has always had a passion for advertising and marketing starting with print: newspapers, magazines and marketing pieces. He then moved into the digital world. While working at Crain Communications he was an integral part of launching websites and selling digital advertising to local and national businesses. Then at Gatehouse Media, he came back to the newspaper industry, trained reps and sold digital marketing to locally owned businesses in Western Illinois. Brett was thrilled to come back to his old stopping grounds in 2014 to sell digital marketing for Shaw Media to locally owned businesses. He provides the online tools to make a difference in their online presence in the Chicago suburbs.

If you had a superpower what would it be?
The ability to fly, that way I would never be stuck in traffic.

You're happiest when?
Hanging out on my front porch listing to tunes enjoying a cocktail that I made.

What is your hidden talent?
Being MacGyver in the kitchen, able to make a meal out of whatever is available in the kitchen.

Best Part/Favorite Part of your job at SMM?
When account executives learn how important digital is for their clients and use that knowledge on sales calls with me, because I know they are learning from me and using it on calls when I’m not with.

Favorite Sports/Sports Teams
I’m not a sports team fan but love hiking, biking, and swimming.

Favorite TV Show/Movie
TV shows: The Daily Show, Project Runway, The Great British Baking Show, CBS Sunday Morning, Adam Ruins Everything, and Orange Is The New Black.

I’m a fan of classic movies (anything on Turner Classic Movies), musicals and comedies, here are some favorites: Austin Powers, Grey Gardens, Hairspray, and Clue.

Strange facts about you?
Drove a hearse in funeral procession for a funeral home when I was 19. Remembered playing with the radio and not thinking twice about the coffin in back. Wasn’t asked back, don’t think they liked my new wave haircut.

Played in the drumline of my high school marching band, learned how to compete as a group while making lifetime friends.

Huge fan of 80’s alternative: The B-52s, New Order, Depeche Mode, The Smiths, Bronski Beat, Erasure, and Ministry.
Also love classic country: Johnny Cash, Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton, Glen Campbell, and Patsy Cline.
Plus current artists: Bruno Mars, Scissor Sisters, Amy Winehouse, Leon Bridges, Adele, and Kristin Chenoweth.
